Sync your Twitter timeline with Tweetmarker

For a long time I used Echofon as my main twitter app. It was ugly as sin but it would sync my unread status between my iPhone and my mac. Eventually I fell in love with Tweetbot too much to keep using Echofon. I always missed the syncing though and I usually avoided using Twitter on my mac because I hated having to scroll to find where I left off, not to mention it telling me all of my direct messages were unread. Thankfully a developer named Manton Reece created the Tweetmarker service. This is an open service that can be implemented by any Twitter app and will sync your timeline position between multiple apps. Now, when I open Twitterific on my mac it automatically scrolls the last tweet I read in Tweetbot on my iPhone. Simply put, I love it! ...

Why we care more about one person's problems than a large group's.

This was an interesting article. Explains why it is always more compelling to put a face to a problem. Rather than generalize a situation, it may be more effective to focus on the story of one person involved to get people’s attention. http://lifehacker.com/5831013/why-you-dont-care-about-the-deaths-of-millions-of-people

Another reason to love apple

One of the biggest criticism I usually hear about Apple products are that they are too expensive. Never mind that these criticisms don’t understand total cost of ownership. When OSX Lion is released in July it will only cost users $30. There are two versions. If you want OSX server you are only forking over $50 for a license. Compare that to the cost of buying a Windows 7 box. Not to mention that Microsoft releases several versions with different levels of features for different price points. With Apple its simple. Server, or regular version, and all features are included. ...

Organization is hard

Organization is hard. Its definitely not my strong point. Just ask my wife how well I remember things she asks me to do. Recently I’ve come across the the Getting Things Done concept. Admittedly I have not read David Allen’s book, but I have done my fair share of googling. As far as I can gather, it basically says to create a system to capture all the todos, goals, responsibilities, etc. that are floating around in our head and causing stress. The system must be trusted so that you don’ t have to worry about keeping track of all these things in our head. The system will keep track of them and remind you of them when the time is near. It also revolves around contexts. Basing our actions and next steps on our current context and what makes sense within it. This could be my location, such as home or work, or be based on available tools, such as when I’m on the internet as opposed to on the go. ...

Evernote is pretty Glorious

I just started using Evernote a few days ago and its already one of my favorite pieces of software. (I know I’m a little late the party, its nothing new). The desktop app is great, but my favorite part so far is the iOS app. A thought hit me today and I was able to quickly jot it down on my phone. When I got home it was there waiting in the desktop app thanks to Evernote’s seamless syncing. I like this already… ...

Back in the journaling game

For years, I would run to a notebook everyday and write about anything and everything. Somedays I would write lyrics/poems, and other days I would simply hash out what was going through my brain. It was a great practice and it really meant a lot to me. Journaling allowed me to sort out my emotions and beliefs. It was also the most intimate time I ever had with my creator. I also felt like God was there when I would write, more so than when I would pray (though journaling can definitely BE prayer). In the past 4 years or so, however, I’ve maybe journaled a handful of times. I keep meaning to get back to it, but put off. Well today I’m back on the horse. ...
